Aglona is a village in central Latgale that is a home to a very impressive catholic cathedral where country's most important religious event takes place every year on August 15. Pope John Paul II visited it in 1993. Nearby there is a place called "Karala kalns" with some really impressive wooden statues, mostly of religious character. Region is dotted with many lakes, has beautiful sceneries, a good place for relaxation with an ample choice of hotels and B&Bs.
