This is the living quarters of the Emperor Guangxu when he was at the Summer Palace. Emperor Guangxu used to read submissions to the throne and conducted court affairs in the central room, which was furnish with a throne and desk made of red sandalwood inlaid with eaglewood, glass screens decorated with landscape paintings and fans made of emerald green feathers, all symbols of imperial power.
