From September 30 to October 6, 2012 I was part of a group of 20 people in a Fall Color Workshop in the Michigan Upper Peninsula run by John and Barbara Gerlach. The Gerlachs live in Idaho near Yellowstone Park. Participants came from all over the United States. This was my second Fall Color Workshop with the Gerlachs. The photographs in this small gallery incorporate some of the techniques the Gerlachs emphasized in the workshop (especially back-button focusing, manual exposure mode, using the RGB color channel histogram correctly, and digital wireless flash techniques), as well as the specific advice I was given by Barbara and John. Unfortunately, I am solely responsible for all of the flaws in these images. :-). Some of the techniques that the Gerlachs presented in the workshop are discussed in their superb book, "Digital Landscape Photography," Focal Press, 2009. This book is a must for anyone seriously interested in landscape photography.

Note that we rarely photographed past 10:30 A.M. or before 5 P.M. to avoid harsh lighting. Meetings and meals occurred between these hours.
