A Visit To The Toronto Zoo

Encompassing 710 acres, the Toronto Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the world. It is divided into four zoogeographic regions with numerous indoor pavilions and outdoor exhibits. The Zoo is home to over 5,000 animals representing over 460 distinct species. It has garnered global recognition for its achievements in breeding and caring for endangered species, and it is one of the premiere zoos of the world.

On May 17, 2007 I drove from Detroit to Toronto and spent the next two days at the Toronto Zoo photographing some of the animals that reside in the Zoo. The Zoo has always been one of our favorite places to visit in Toronto. With the exception of the orangutans, all of the photographs were taken at outdoor exhibits. This small gallery contains the most interesting (to me) or unusual animals that I was able to photograph.

For more information about the Toronto Zoo see http://www.torontozoo.com/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Zoo . For thorough descriptions of many of the animals in the Zoo, see the Zoo's terrific fact sheet page, http://www.torontozoo.com/animals/ .
