An antique, 19th Century tsakli painting in mineral pigments depicting within a highly stylised
landscape and encircling clouds is a wrathful emanation of Padmasambhava - (Padma rGyalpo), surrounded by his large saffron coloured nimbus and green mandorla, wearing the royal turban and holding a mirror, in which the karmic forces of fate are seen - that is, the reflection of the effects of one's own former deeds. In his right hand he holds a damaru, the small tantric double drum.
Seated in Rajalilasana, the position of Royal Ease on his lotus throne he flies through the mountains dressed
in the robes of a lama with flying sleeves, indicating his speed and power, with a sturdy pair of blue boots to carry him through whatever landscape he must travel to proclaim and protect the dharma. 9 x 11.4cm

other sizes: small medium large original auto
