An antique 19th Century tsakli painting in mineral pigments depicting within a moon shaped white nimbus a large 'golden' receptacle containing 8 offerings of auspicious substances. The first a bowl of milk curds, vermilion, kusha grass, peach fruit, medicinal durva, a bundle of tied sugar canes, a medicinal bezoar stone (from the head of an elephant and noted for its magical properties), and a right spiralling conch shell. All o f these substances are offerings that are pleasing to the peaceful deities and are offered as part of propitiation rituals. 12 x 14.4cm
