Eight Spoked Wheel

An antique 19th Century tsakli painting in mineral pigments, depicting in glowing colours and within a burst of flames, one of the 8 auspicious symbols - the 'Eight Spoked Wheel'. (Sanskrit: chakra) the emblem of the Chakravartin - the 'wheel turner'.

It is also known as the Dharmacakra - the aniconic symbol of the Buddha's teachings - the Wheel of The Law. It symbolises the rapid spiritual transformation revealed in the Buddha's teachings - overcoming all obstacles and illusions.

The wheel springs from a jewel containing leafy throne, and is surrounded by norbu within its fiery perimeter. 1 syllable of Tibetan script to the reverse. 10.6 x 13.8cm
