An antique 19th Century tsakli painting in mineral pigments, depicting in glowing colours one of the 8 auspicious symbols -the Endless Knot (Sanskrit shrivatsa) The Endless Knot overlaps without a beginning nor an ending, symbolising the Buddha's endless wisdom and compassion. It also denotes continuity, and is itself the descendant of a more ancient Indian symbol - such as two or more nagas (serpents) entwining to form the knot design.
