Heruka

An antique tsakli painting, Tibet, 19th Century or earlier depicting, within a burst of flames, a 'black' bodied wrathful deity in yabyum with his dark-skinned Sakti. Both have gold facial hair! and her long red hair is also streaked with gold as they trample 2 poor wretches underfoot. He holds many attributes in his 6 hands - a dorje, a heart, a gold goad, a bell, a snare and a skull cup, while she holds a bell. He wears copious bone ornaments, a flayed elephant hide, a garland of severed heads and a tiger skin dhoti while she wears a leopard skin dhoti, a bone belt and other jewellery. A skull diadem holds back his hair from his angry face with bared fangs. Five lines of text and a Terma syllable to the reverse.
