Reflections, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, 2011

I merge a window display featuring a menacing figure representing some kind of contemporary vampirish entertainment into a reflection of Pittsfield’s staid early 20th century business architecture.
The eras clash incongruously here. I used my own shadow in the window to bring out the figure.

Thanks, Merri, for adding this info on this fellow, who is most likely the figure in the window. He apparently has stolen my idea here.

I shall provide additional context regarding Lord Voldemort. After he was originally vanquished, he became mostly disembodied and had to rely on the corporeal assets of others, some willing and some not, to commit his evil acts. Looks like you were co-opted :-)

Thanks so much, Rose, for adding this context. I am obviously not a Harry Potter devotee, so had no idea who this nasty figure represented. But he certainly looked foul to me, and quite at odds with his surroundings.

I love all the layers in your image.
FYI, the menacing figure is none other than the foulest literary character of late 20th century literature -
Tom Riddle, aka Lord Voldemort, aka He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, from the Harry Potter series of novels.

You are right. I see myself only as a dark area of reflection, but shadows can always trigger the imagination of the viewer. If you think you see a figure with a bowed head in that glass, you will.

Your reflection, for me, also creates a sense of eeriness. Because of your typical photo taking stance, you appear to be cowering in front of the menace.
