Translucence, New York City, New York, 2009

Their plastic ponchos made translucent by the headlights of waiting traffic, two men cross 34th Street in a deluge of rain. I spot metered on the lights of a car, which turns day into night, and intensifies the translucence.

That's what is so incongruous here, Tim -- all these people running around New York in large plastic bags, some made translucent by the oncoming traffic. I love to use translucence as an expressive tool and I know that you will as well. I think I first became aware of its potential for expression when you and I were shooting together back in 2004 at the Botanical Garden in San Diego's Balboa Park. I made this image there:http://www.pbase.com/image/28253758

Again I find myself wondering here - You can find a very large plastic bag - but you can't find an umbrella? I love the translucence here - maybe I should explore translucence sometime in my photos :-)
