2005-02-03: Goose Latrine

Charles River, Needham / Newton

This could be a pretty scene if not for all the goose shit!
I guess the Canada Geese gather here because of the open water.
(I wonder: in Canada, do they call them "American Geese"?)

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
1/250s f/10.0 at 10.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto

It sounds so lovely when you put it that way...

Nope, we call them Canadian Geese too and trust me, they crap up here alot more than they do by the time they get down there! :)

haha Nice composition! Best goose dropping photo I've ever seen!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. But hey -- I took the shot because of the goose shit! The pretty reflection is just a chance addition. You're lucky I didn't have a longer lens on the camera, or I could have taken a closeup on the droppings!

Crikey that's a lot of crap! I love the reflection in the water though. Perhaps a crop for just the vertical right half of the photo would look better?

Oh crud I hate seeing that stuff on the edge of the water. The geese are beautiful but I wonder what we could give them to eat that end up a little less, um, disqusting.

Aside from the goose droppings I really like this image. The sun and trees reflected in the water are beautiful. Great composition.

Nice reflection in the water!

Hey Peter, this has an extraordinary composition - the lines and curves, convergence, and reflections and tones. Really cool . . . but I agree about the ah, goose leavings. You can try to select the color in a replace color and blend it with the path, or just desaturate, then tone as you see fit. Just a thought. Cindy
