This ultimately simple tool is a simple lever which increases the focusing precision approximately 10 times, and it was constructed long before any 1:10 focusing attachments appeared on the market. The design was inspired by a similar ATM project seen on a web, fitting TeleVue focusing knobs.
The wooden block is made from 22mm thick plywood. The central hole mates with Takahashi focusing knobs - it is slightly larger to maintain an easy fit. After fitting over the knob, the lever - long M6 screw is turned to tighten the wooden block over the knob. Attaching and removing takes few seconds.
Improved precision of focusing for visual use is obvious - one can also quickly "tweak" fine focus to find the sweet spot.
I was even using this little attachment for photography and CCD imaging - in that case I used to set the CCD slightly "in focus" and than move it "out" it very small steps by lightly tapping the lever - focusing action was assisted by gravity. Once precise focus was obtained, I locked the focuser.
The beauty is that the ManuFocus attachment fits over any Takahashi knob - I was using it with FS60, FS102, TOA130, FSQ106 etc.
