As we all felt it would be a shame not to bath in a warm ocean water, we decided one day to drive down to Los Gigantes. The windy road drives down the to the west from the Teide Caldera - fist among the fields of ash and lava and later among pine forests and finally wine yards and fields on the west coast.
Los Gigantes is a small town on the Tenerife west coast. To the north of the town, there are the giant rock formations, Acantilados de Los Gigantes, which rise from the sea to a height of 500-800 metres.
For bathing in the ocean, we picked a small black sand beach, which lies between the rocks and the marina. Water was warm but the dark sand got unbearable hot.
We also enjoyed the views of flowers and gardens - a nice change after mostly desert landscapes in the caldera.
