I'm very patriotic. This is our Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. It was the war of my generation. The Walk of Honor contains 280 stainless steel bollards, one for each of the 280 men killed or missing in Vietnam from our region. I knew 2 of these fine young men. Both died before reaching their 21st birthday.
While I was there, a gentleman came along and paused at one of the bollards. He had gray hair - perhaps it was his son or brother? I thought about taking a picture of him - standing with his hands clasped in front of him and his head bowed. Just before he left, he saluted the bollard. I never could take the picture. I walked over to the bollard he was standing in front - it was a young man who is still MIA. It's still hits home after all these years... That's why I would make a terrible photojournalist.
