San Diego still seems capable of churning out fine bands. I met the bassist for this band while shooting pictures at an Akimbo/Big Business show (at the Hemlock, SF). She was a Roadie for Big Business, so when she asked me to shoot pictures of her band I agreed, despite the show being on a Tuesday. You get a certain amount of instant credibility by being a Roadie in my book. It also helps if you Roadie for quality folks. I had a blast seeing them and meeting with the guitarist's other band, Maiden Taiwan. Once again I confirmed what I already knew: San Diego is a lot like Oakland, in that I wonder why I go there, until I'm there. Good people, good music and plenty of down-to-earth places to combine the two. Tourettes Lautrec is a fine example of genre-defiance, in musical terms. It'd be easier to describe what they aren't influenced by. But it ain't fusion, damn it! Don't call it that. Neu-wave-post-punk-blues-rock-synth-thrash? I'll post a link to some MP3s when they get a site up. Until then, keep your eye out for their show. Possible partial-tour with Big Business in the fall is the rumor...
