I just got home from my final day of hunting this season. As predicted, I
failed to get my deer. I have an excuse--my camera got in the way. I was in
the very limited in area Whitetailed Deer habitat south of Peachland, and
had just started my walk along a snowy road, when a Whitetailed doe crossed
the trail. She stopped and looked stood looking at me for a few moments, but
partly hidden in the trees, so I didn't get a good picture. Then she looked
back, in the direction from which she had come, and I wondered if another
deer might be coming. Sure enough, a second deer bounded across the road.
Another doe, I thought but this time, it stopped in a more open area where I
was able to snap a couple of pictures. Not until then, and as it turned away
to leave, did I see the small antlers! So went my opportunity to shoot a
buck. At least he now may have an opportunity to grow larger, with more
readily visible antlers next year.
Before I became so enamoured of these digital cameras, I would have at once
raised my rifle and looked at a deer through the 4X telescopic sight. That
would have shown me the antlers. Oh well, I really do enjoy the camera and
would sooner give up the rifle than my camera.
That wasn't all. Just before I saw the deer, I saw a Ruffed Grouse beside
the road, and here is the picture that I took--one of my better photos, I
think.
