Émile Nelligan
(1879-1941) est souvent associé à une image de folie,
ayant passé la majeure partie de sa vie en institution psychiatrique.
Cependant, la question de sa santé mentale fait débat :
certains analystes et auteurs suggèrent qu'il n'était pas fou,
mais plutôt un artiste en conflit profond avec lui-même et son entourage,
voire incompris, plutôt que souffrant d'une pathologie mentale classique.
