The tollhouse, along with the bridge, was completed in 1832. Work on the project began in 1829.
The architect and civil engineer for the tollhouse (and the accompanying bridge) was the Scotsman Alexander Nimmo. The Toll House is located on the Munster Blackwater and is now privately owned.
