Rescue of a Frightened Feline

Naxwit Picnic Area - Lillooet, B.C.

This older kitten was discovered near 7:30 pm while shooting photos at the BC Hydro Naxwit Picnic Area. It appeared to have been 'abandoned' and had fashioned a crude open nest among some brambles near the creek; it's owner or some kind samaritan had left a small bowl of milk nearby. All its mannerisms demonstrated it was quite frightened and wanted desperately to be rescued; something I could appreciate for this particular evening was not only windy and cold but rain showers were falling fairly frequently ... not the type of night for a household pet to be spending outside amongst bears, coyotes, raccoons, etc.
It simply wasn't possible for us to transport it by motorcycle let alone care for it in a tent; also, the locals had advised there was no SPCA in Lillooet. Attempting to have it adopted by park visitors met with no success ... nor did canvassing campers in our campsite ... I did however meet a fisherman who kindly donated a freshly caught Rainbow Trout to the cause.
Upon approaching the campsite attendant she agreed to assist me in capturing the cat and would then canvass her friends and relatives to find it a home. To this end we traveled back to the park where ... lo and behold; NO CAT ... nor bowl of milk.
Now this sure got our minds engaged but it wasn't until a couple hours later, after darkness had fallen, that we learned a couple campers who had been approached to adopt the cat drove over to the park and rescued it ... they mentioned it showed signs of having had a recent operation and since they were headed for Kamloops tomorrow they would transport it to the SPCA there.
Now I wonder aloud if, after spending the night with the kitten plus the time it takes to drive to Kamloops ... that maybe ... just maybe ... a bond of friendship would be established and perhaps this unfortunate kitten would inherit a new set of parents.
