While out owling I came across Dr. Jim Duncan from Manitoba Conservation and his wife Patsy who band Hawk Owls and Great Grays here in Manitoba.

It's a delight to watch them at work...giving me to opportunity to view and photograph these Winter Owls up-close and personal.
Their banding and research track owls from year to year and gives them an idea as to their movement and numbers.
The series of photos includes their capture, banding, documentation of weight,age and sex of each owl captured.
This years eruption of Great Grays in Manitoba has kept them busy.


Great Gray (male) weighs 1000 grams year round...while the female 1000 grams (summer) goes to 1300-1500 during the winter.

Northern Hawk Owls weigh in at between 300-350 grams for both sexes.
