The guidebook said this high loop trail above Lake O'Hara could be combined with a trip to Opabin Prospect and Lake McArthur, but fellow hikers said this 12.4 kilometer trail was very slow because of trail itself and the snow and ice on the trail and not to plan to do all of it in one day.
The first section takes you up to the Wiwaxy Gap which was socked in and the weather seemed to be closing in all around. The trail then descended somewhat to Lake Oesa which we had hiked up on the ice on the first day. I took pictures from this trail over to this Lake Oesa, down at Lake O'Hara and the lodge and over to Opabin Basin where I would spend the last day (or part of it) taking pictures in the best weather we had. Most everthing else was in the clouds so . . .
The second part of the trail was from Lake Oesa to Opabin Basin/Plateau. You see the best part of Opabin Basin on this hike and without the climb up and the descent down to Lake O'Hara.
After the detour to Opabin Prospect thethird section starts and becomes rather snowy which my worn out boots were not really suited for. I had ski poles though and hikers I met here told me the trail did not get any worse and in fact once I got to the downhill part there would be less snow so I continued on and got back to our "hut" by about 4pm.
