Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

At 208 feet, this is the tallest lighthouse
in the country. The original light was constructed in 1803 and
stood 90 feet tall. In 1854, it was increased to 150
feet. During the Civil War, it sustained heavy damage and in
1870 a replacement was built. The old light was demolished in
1871. The shifting sands and many storms threatened the lighthouse
and in 1999, it was moved inland. It now stands as far from shore
as it did when originally constructed.

I know this lighthouse is often photographed but it
is one that I have always wanted to see.

How lovely! This view is super and the angle of the dune with the stripes
on the lighthouse really play well together! Great shot!

You have captured the essence of the lighthouse.
The sand, wind blown grass and it gives me a feeling of being right there.

What an amazing piece of history! This is a lovely shot too. Not stereotypical at all. The tall grasses compliment the light well. V

I love this lighthouse. Ever since I purchased my Nikon D300, I have wanted to photograph this lighthouse. I really like your angle/view of the lighthouse.

Thanks,
Lee
