I was given a short opportunity to check the local surfing area in La Union, Philippines towards the end of 2011. This was my first time to take photos of surfers in the beach with a super-telephoto birding rig. I am aware of the limitations of the Canon 40D particularly for action photography and I have to make necessary adjustments both on the camera and lens settings. The surfers were definitely larger than my usual feathered subjects. The long lens techniques I’ve learned from many years of shooting wild birds proved invaluable.
I am happy with the results of the action photos of surfers and was pleasantly surprised on the output of the low available light/high ISO experiment (documentary captures).
