Philippine Airlines DC-8 at Manila International Airport (MIA), Nichols/Villamor Air Base

MIA, Manila, Philippines (NAIA)

I took this photo when I was 15 yrs old flying aboard a PAL BAC 1-11 taking off from Manila International Airport (MIA) for Cagayan de Oro in the summer of 1979.

The blur is reflected in the use of a slow-speed Kodak 110 Instamatic camera in a high speed situation. Nevertheless the context of this photo is priceless
to me as it reminds me of my youth and the year when the DC-8s were to be retired & replaced by the Airbus A300 'Love Bus', Boeing 727 & Boeing 747-200. While none of
these planes fly for PAL anymore I believe the Ford tractor in the foreground still works the fields in current day Ninoy Aquino Int'l Airport (NAIA)

Nichols Air Base, later known as Villamor Air Base, and its open air hangars, can be seen in the background. These hangars have been replaced by NAIA Terminal III.

Hi Guest on July 9, 2022. Thank you for your question. The DC-8 is on a taxiway that ran parallel and was northwest of runway 13 which we had just taken off from. Back then the taxiway you see linked the Manila Domestic Airport (MDA) to Manila Int'l Airport (MIA) & runway 06-24.
