As people turned the cranks on the tiny music boxes on the side of the megaphone-notice numerable small gray boxes on the outside of the cone-the megaphone would amplify and project the sounds. Many boxes could be turned at once to produce very intricate tunes. Some of the music boxes played recognizable toons while others were just pleasing to the ear.
