Entry point to Great Gallery Trail in Canyonlands National Park

Little did I know that I would never see this gate again. About 6 hours later I was seriously injured on the canyon floor! This was Monday, I was found Saturday and choppered out by medi-vac to one hospital, stabilized and transported over 90 miles to another hospital in another state! I was told by 6 Doctors between the two hospitals that I had a 5% chance of survival, that kind of sticks in your head, but I did! Still carry scars from the trail that collapsed under me and caused my injuries but am around to talk about it.

Years ago there was another way down that allowed you to ride horses down in small groups but that access has been closed off to most groups. Back in the 1930's there were jeep roads put in to the floor of the canyon but it was never used much by ranchers and no minerals were discovered to speak of .
