Be sure to clean all grease and oil from the inside of the lens helicoid.
Remove excess lubricant from the edge of the helicoid with a foam q tip.

notice here that the retainer for the focusing ring/scale uses 3 screws on this version of the lens while the one I have uses 6 screws. wouldn't have given this much thought if I hadn't lost one of these 6 screws... any hints on the specifications of those screws?
