Remove the two screws retaining the zoom encoder contacts.
Underneith the contact assembly is a guide that fits into the zoom body.
The zoom ring is made of plastic and therefore these screws are coarse thread self tapping type.
The only other plastic type screws in this lens are on the contact plate.
All others are machine threaded.

I'm doing this on a 28-85mm and everything has been the same up to this point. I removed the zoom encoder, but i just can't seem to be able to slip off the zoom ring or remove any other pieces of the lens. and there aren't any other screws visible. so i seem stuck. do you know what to do?
