Last night was a champagne reception celebrating the grand opening and Inaugural Show of the Wimberley Valley Art League Gallery. It was a juried show and fifty four pieces of art were chosen from over 200 entries from league members. We were very excited that seven photographs were included in the show, including four from members of our Hill Country Photography Club. At the reception we were even more delighted when Best of Show was awarded to Herb Smith for his photo, “Cypress Roots”. Herb is a former president of our club, our webmaster, our mentor, friend and a talented photographer. He worked as a medical illustrator at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland before being recruited by renowned cardiovascular surgeon
Michael DeBackey to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
He directed Baylor’s Department of Medical Illustration and Audiovisual Education for thirty-seven years.
Now Wimberley is blessed with his volunteer spirit and his talent as a photographer.

I decided to do this photo in black and white because black and white photos are his specialty. Congratulations, Herb.
My “Spider Web Diamonds” was chosen. I was extremely excited and honored.
It can be seen on the top row, second from the left.
The gallery will host revolving shows and in two months
I'll have to submit more work....should keep me on my toes.
