EDUCATION IS NOT THE FILLING OF A PAIL,
BUT THE LIGHTING OF A FIRE. ~YEATS

This one is for Nancy, Hugh and Kate.

Each year, Keep Wimberley Beautiful, holds a scarecrow contest. This is the entry of the Hill Country Homeschool group. It won first prize in the “Most Creative” category.

Two of my grandchildren are home schooled, are part of the group and helped with the scarecrows. Now I will admit to being quite skeptical about home schooling, but I am now convinced that it can be a good thing. I also have grandchildren in two different school districts in San Antonio, one in Boerne, and one in D’Hanis, Texas. They are all thriving in school. My conclusion is that one of the most important ingredients to success in school, in addition to an interested and motivated student and good teachers, is parents who are involved and make their children’s education a priority.

The warmth of family can do amazing things. These are great looking scarecrows, made with lots of care.

I agree with your thinking on the importance of parental participation. Your grandkids did a great job on the scarecrow presentation, too.

Had never heard that saying, but it's a good one to remember. So importatnt for the fire to last a lifetime. Good one!

I agree, Petesie. I always told my children "don't let books get in the way of your education" meaning there is more to education than those books. And, I was a teacher. This is a wonderful Halloween scene.

I agree with you, Petesie. Concerned and supportive parents are the most important ingredient in a good education. Love the scarecrows!

Nice and very insightful. You seem like you would be so interesting to talk to P!
