Black Swallowtail Larva on Fennel

I plant the fennel just to draw in the Black Swallowtails. If you saw my PaD
on Sunday http://www.pbase.com/image/31204523 it was of
of fennel. That bit of fennel is now gone, and it is covered
with larva....they are getting fat and happy, which I'm happy about.

I'm only home for a moment. They put my husband in the hospital
for tests and I came home to water the absolutely necessaries.
He was so weak that I had a hard time getting him out of bed this
morning, and it took two nurses to do it at the hospital, so I
guess it is good that he is there. Hopefully it won't be for long.

Outstandingly good indeed. I am way envious. Out butterfly population is way down this year. There is one spicebush swallowtail out and about and one frittilary and one wood nymph. harumph. I doubt there is any larva. The milkweed came and went so fast and I haven't seen a single viceroy or monarch. I guess I will just have to visit your galleries often and live vicariously.

Hope you husband is regaining strength daily.

When they grow up to be big girls & boys they will come back & thank you for the growth hormone, fennel.
I hope your husband is feeling much better soon.

I don't know how you manage both your photography and caring for your husband, though perhaps taking pictures is a restful necessity. This fellow is beautiful -- can't wait to see his wings!
