In June 2011, our family joined with friends from CEFC (a total of 16 persons) to take a 10 days 8 nights tour of Italy.
The tour was operated by Ritz Tours, with mostly Chinese American clients. Our tour group had 47 persons. So, we made a lot of new friends.
From ancient Rome to the Renaissance, Italy played a major role in shaping the development of the Western civilization. Much of this is evident in the historical sites we visited.
This year, Italy celebrates the 150th anniversary of its unification. In March 1861, Victor Emanuel II of Savoy became the first king of a unified Italy. Although Venice and Rome did not join the unified nation until 1866 and 1870 respectively, the year 1861 is considered the birth of modern Italy as a nation. Everywhere we went, we saw signs of this commemoration like red white & green flags and the number "150".
I was pleasantly surprised to meet my PBase friend, Mr. Richard Chu, in person for the first time on the same tour. Please click here to see his photos.
