The statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen (孫中山), founder of the Republic of China, is located between the Nuuanu River and the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. As a teenage boy, Dr. Sun attended the Iolani School here in Honolulu. Years later, the Chinese community in Hawaii contributed generous financial support for his revolution to overthrow the Manchu monarchy.
