Lower Kananaskis Lake, Alberta, Canada.
I drove with a friend to this location early in the morning, arrived while it was dark, hoped for a dramatic sunrise.
It was somewhat of an eerie feeling initially, surrounded by tall fir trees, no light other than two small flashlights,
looking around hoping we wouldn't see eyes shining back at us from nearby. This is a prime wildlife habitat
for Grizzly Bears, Elk, Moose, Deer, and many smaller animals. We heard Wolves calling from far away.
We made our way from the parking lot and its 'bear proof' garbage containers, which are a magnet
for bears anyway, across a muskeg-like area to this spot on the edge of the lake.
The lake was perfectly still, the air cool and clear, the mountains majestic. To escape the hustle of
daily city and work life to this place and this dawn was a gift beyond measure. An opportunity to
appreciate the incredible beauty of this world we inhabit.
