Cassiopia and Perseus. You can see the nebulae and star clusters as they circle Polaris on the right side centre. Polaris is the largest star in the Little Dipper and is a pointer for North. All the stars and constellations revolve around this point (actually True North located right beside Polaris) as you can see Polaris also making a very small circle around this point. If you look carefully near the top of this image to the right of centre, you will find a small blue dot. This is a geocentric satellite in stationary orbit.
You can find Polaris by locating the Big Dipper. Draw a stright line "up" from the two end stars forming the "pot" or Dipper, and follow the line to the first largest star you to come to. Polaris will be slightly off the line to one side depending upon your location. You are now facing north. Spread your arms and you have east - west. A handy compass at night.
