It looks like the dancer is mimicking the expression on the wooden totem behind him! Great tatoos! Great action photo!

Thanks Gary. It is warrior dance. I think that the meaning of the dance is to intimidate the enemies and to earn self-confidence. This is the typical final pose of the haka dance.
