It is assumed by some that many of the other-worldly characters in Black Dragon Canyon are associated with solar devotion. The ancient peoples of the area would have taken the equinoxes and solstices seriously since they would have affected agricultural cycles and other things. Therefore it's possible that Black Dragon Canyon served as a seasonal shrine for observing the sun's movements.
