Death Valley - The Racetrack

This image was taken at the Racetrack playa. There is nothing wierder than seeing these rocks (some of which weigh hundreds of pounds) with their long trails on the playa surface (some of which are several hundred yards long). No one has ever seen rocks physically leave trails and there is still a little debate as to the event that allows them to move. This photo shows a rock that has doubled back on itself while another crosses its path. Sometimes they follow strange paths (complete circles for instance) and often travel uphill (there is a very slight uphill grade at the playa).

You get to the Racetrack by driving down a rough dirt road for about 30 miles. I damaged my car getting there but it was all worth it in pursuit of the photos.
