Selkis (aka Selket) and Neith

So far so good. These figures look fairly similar to the real thing and I'm happy. All modelling is done in Maya 2011.

other sizes: small medium large original auto

There might be better programs than Maya but I like the modeling tools in Maya and haven't felt a need to change. Also, our team needs to keep using it for legacy purposes. Yeah, I remember those old days of the computer being tied up while rendering. What a pain.

Thanks for the info Paul, not bad render times,(thought you used higher res) have not tried a 3d render in many years but it used to be way too long to wait just for fun of it,& remember times when it failed after the wait 8-) and of course, PC was tied up the whole time. But then I'm talking really old system and software, can't even recall the software title now.

Old Maya program still the best, or newer titles too cost prohibitive ?

Single renderings like this usually aren't a big problem. The real problem is when we have to render large amounts of frames of animation. Once we start doing that those 10 minutes or 1 hour per frame become real problematic.

I don't think this one really takes a long time. A 1600x1600 rendering like this one might only take about 10 minutes. Most renderings I do only take about 2 minutes and some of the really challenging renders might take an hour or so. Back in the early 90s when I first started doing this stuff my final renders in 1024x768 would take 2-3 days to complete. An image like this would have taken a week. Computers are definitely faster today and the rendering software is definitely better. My current work computer is actually somewhat slow as I have been using it since around 2010. it has an i7 quad 930 chip (1.6Ghz) and an old Firepro card.

Hey Paul, How long does something like this take to actually render when ready?
& what are your system specs?
