The Tutankhamun Project (WIP)

I have decided that I am going to do a large layout rendering of the tomb of Tutankhamun. This project will require me to build a few hundred pieces of furniture, funerary equipment, and other miscellaneous items in Maya 2011. It will probably be years before I have it finished.

Until then you can see my progress as I build pieces. I have started with the Treasury first....

I have read a lot of books on Tutankhamun but the following have proven to be particularly helpful for this project:

1. The Griffith Institute website. NOTE: This website is the best resource out there for learning about the various pieces in the tomb by way of notes and journalse left by Carter and others. Howard Carter left notes for just about everything in the tomb and those notes can be found on this site. Also, they have all of the Harry Burton photography though in low resolution versions.

2. Carter, H.E., and A.C. Mace. The Tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amun, Discovered by the Late Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter. 3 vols. New York, 1923-33. NOTE: These engaging books discuss the discovery and clearing of the tomb.

3. Reeves, Nicholas. The Complete Tutankhamun: The King, the Tomb, the Royal Treasure. London, 1995. NOTE: This book is one of the best resources out there with regard to tomb inventory and information related to the discovery and clearance of the tomb.

4. Edward, I.E.S. Tutankhamun: His Tomb and Its Treasures. New York, 1976. NOTE: There are a lot of great high resolution Harry Burton photos in this book.

5. The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tutankhamun's Tomb: The Thrill of Discovery. New York, 2006. NOTE: Like the Edward book this one has a lot of great high resolution photos taken in the tomb by Harry Burton.

6. James, T.G.H. Tutankhamun. New York, 2000. NOTE: This book discusses pieces one by one in a very descriptive manner.

7. Hawass, Z. King Tutankhamun. London, 2007. NOTE: Like the James book this one discusses the major pieces located in the tomb.
