With curved rows of crosses and Stars of David covering its impeccably groomed 70 acres, The Florence American Cemetery & Memorial is the final resting place for 4,402 U.S. military dead from World War II. It also marks the location at which the names of 1,409 missing are memorialized. Most of the men buried at Florence died in fighting that occurred after the capture of Rome in June 1944.
