One nice thing about underwater photography is that you're not stuck at ground level! This diver
is about to try for a deck-level shot of the wreck; I think he's setting up for super-wide.
I have been compiling a set of "favourites" from my diving trips to Puerto Galera;
I have been there so many times (diving with the very professional and highly
recommended Asia Divers) that I have quite a few that I like. Trawling
through the various collections, I found an earlier version of this.
Previosuly I hadn't found a way of processing it that produced what I was looking for;
the problem is that this kind of shot has a long smooth gradient of luminosity, and
digital doesn't tend to handle it well. Unfortunately the original was shot as jpeg;
and part of the top-left corner was blown out. Even though the trusty Oly C5050
allows raw, I wasn't using it at that stage.
Anyway, I finally figured out how to get something more like what I wanted from
the shot, 2.5 years (and a couple of hours) after pressing the shutter button.
