Winter returned the day after Thanksgiving. A brisk wind was blowing down the Alligator River -
Pungo River canal portion of the Intracoastal waterway. No hat, no gloves, teeth chattering.
Nothing much to block the wind up on the high span of the bridge, but very worthwhile to spend a
few minutes watching the full moon rise in the east while the sun dropped below the horizon behind
me in the west. Hyde County averages about 3 feet above sea level. Views like this are rare
indeed.
