was it originally painted Green? I lived at 2001 Morris Ave until 1964 Went to PS 28 and PS 79 for a year.

I lived in this building from 1947 - 1969.

This always looked like shown in the picture. As a child living there in the 60's/70's I always wondered what the plate covering was for. I later decided it must have been an outlet for some electric logs. There was no chimney/flue--it was purely decorative fireplace.

what did this look like when you lived there? was it always sealed off like that? The history of Bronx buildings fascinates me! I too, lived in the Bronx as a kid in the 70's..
