Photos of Taipei Past

Taiwan: It's a small nation that rose from third world poverty, to the cutting edge of the IT industry. One of the largest industrial cogs of the high tech manufacturing infratstructure (80% of semi-conductors, crucial to the most basic computer components are from Taiwan), Taiwan's 67 billion (2001*) involvement in high tech development is joined with it's equally capable industrial chemical and plastics industry.

Added with a fairly stable financial infrastructure, Taiwan has managed to establish itself as one of the earliest, and most dependable Asian tigers. Anyway, solid infrastructure, strong culutral roots, and a perfect balance between Asian, European and American values have led for a very interesting development of this island's capital city: Taipei.

One of my english teachers who had been in taiwan for 7 years told me he had never ever had a single bad meal in Taiwan... And i can say the exact same. Thanks to Taiwan's low cost of living, premium meals can be had for a fraction of the price they cost in America, and at even at "mediocre" joints, there is such a strong focus on the development of atmosphere/interior decoration, as well as the base product. Another part of Taipei, is the absolutely insane traffic, thanks to "optional" traffic laws and insane taxi drivers. America is so ridiculously structured in comparison, though NYC does get a honorable mention for almost being as hectic as Taipei.
