PoorMan's LX-200

I started out with a ETX-90RA non computerized scope, and I converted it to a fully computerized go-to scope by attaching it to a DS-70EC mount. I bought the ETX-90RA new for $189.00 and I bought the DS-70EC and 495 Autostar for $200. I converted the 495 Autostar to the 497 Autostar just by upgrading the software. I removed the scope from the DS-70EC and built an aluminum shelf bracket for the ETX-90RA scope. The new computerized mount works like a champ now. It was a lot cheaper doing the conversion than it would be to just buy a ETX-90EC plus the Autostar plus a tripod.

Meade has now productized your idea! Brookstone sells the new DSX-125AT and DSX-90AT athttp://www.meade.com/brookstone/dsx125at.html . The instruction manuals are online at Meade's manuals page here:http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html .

The DS-2070AT includes the lesser Autostar #494 and the single fork mount.

Hi, I recently saw your page about mounting a ETX-90 on a DS mount. I just purchased a DS-80 w/autostar and I decided to mount my ETX-90RA on the DS mount like you did. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind. First, how you do get the ETX in the "home" position now for accurate alignment for the autostar? It seeems like all the directions and tips that I found on the internet explain how to do it assuming the ETX is mounted on its original Meade ETX motordrive base. Second, do you know if it's possible to mount the DS tube on the Meade base which previously housed the ETX? I hate to just leave the DS tube assembly laying in the box, but then again I really don't want to buy a new tripod just for that reason if I don't have to. It would be great if I could reuse both these extra pieces.

Hi, I love how you upgrade your 90AR, I have looked every where to locate the DS-70EC to do the same and came up empty. Seems AMAZON .COM got there paws into it for some reason and wont let me get out of their loop; it says no longer available every where I go and returns me to AMAZON. Got any suggestions? Appreciated.
