M110 in 3D

Austin, Texas

This is the M110 galaxy in Andromeda. You will see two pictures side by side. The left image is the original. On the right image I moved some stars around so that you can see the picture in 3D. To see it in 3d, stare at the picture with your eyes crossed until the two galaxy's line up as one galaxy. You will see three pictures, the one in the middle will be in 3D.

Canon EOS 10D ,Televue 85

other sizes: small medium original auto

this image is very interesting, as i was fascinated by 3d-shots since i was a child.
how do you know what distance you shall move the stars to get the right parallax-distance.

another question: cannot that kind of shot be made from earth, when the earth is in summer position and then repeat the same shot in winter position? or will the parallax be much to little to have an effect?
