Cares_Start.JPG

The (literal) highpoint of our trip was the 12 km. hike up the Río Cares and back. This is one of the great mountain walks of the world.
After a heartier-than-usual breakfast at Casa Florentina in Arenas, we began the walk. It had been over 13 years since we had undertaken any walk of this magnitude. (That was Havasu Canyon, Arizona, and it's a lot simpler and easier than the Cares).
Yet, despite the sore muscles and the blisters, it was worth every meter.
Fortunately, at Caín, our turning around point, you could purchase food and beer. We lunched on bread, chorizo and cheese, and swilled it all down with a pitcher of beer.
The walk back would have been a lot quicker had it not been for the massive blisters I'd developed.
But we made it back to a well-deserved supper and a good night's sleep.
