The large, vinous plant to the right of the gate is a chayote. One month after this picture was taken, the plant had grown to the extent that it had to be cut back. We expect a large crop of large chayotes.
UPDATE: It is now mid-November, and the chapulines in their mating frenzy have consumed much of the Monstruo. However, a cold period has reduced their activity, (or else they have spent their ardor) and the Monstruo will undoubtedly survive the winter.
